Salman Khan's Jai Ho doesn't excite the Indian box-office

Jai Ho doesn't spell victory at the box-office

Feb 10, 2014

Salman Khan's new release Jai Ho, which opened on January 24th, has put on an underwhelming show at the box-office so far. Compared to Salman's own high standards and his other blockbusters over the past few years, Jai Ho has come as a major setback for 'Bhai'

At the end of the first week, Jai Ho netted around 89 crores at the domestic box-office. After yesterday's business, Jai Ho's domestic net is estimated to be in the 96 to 97 crores range. The film is sure to cross 100 crores net by the end of the day, but this will be one of those rare occasions when a film that has crossed 100 crores net, will still be considered a failure at the box-office.

In the overseas space, Jai Ho has grossed 4.5 million USD (around 28.2 crores) on last count.

The reasons being cited for Jai Ho's disappointing show at the Indian box-office are the mixed reviews, the normal ticket rates (ticket rates were hiked during the release of Chennai Express, Dhoom 3 and Krrish 3) and the lack of a festival day such as Eid, Diwali or Christmas around the release time.

The trade is sure to lose money on Jai Ho as the investment on the movie was high. Salman would be looking to bounce back with his next release like a 'Tiger'.
