Personality this week - Article: Madhavan

Madhavan, sweetly named as Maddy has remained in the heart-throb of many girls. This cute guy was actually a model before he entered the film industry. He first did a Kannada film titled Shanthi Shanthi Shanthi with director Srinivas. Before, entering the film industry he was a popular T.V. star in 'Saaya', 'Sea Hawks', 'Banegi Apni Baat', 'Ghar Jamai'.

Earlier he was doing an ad for Ponds shot by Santhosh Sivan who later introduced Maddy to Mani Rathnam. At the outset , he was called for the screen test for ‘Iruvar’. But Mani said ,as he was looking for a different face and he would surely call him for the next movie.Maddy returned back disappointed but later as said,Mani called him for the movie ‘Alaipauthey’, and from there he is excelling in his own profession.

Maddy had a great welcome among the audience for his first movie itself which created a place in the hearts of the people. The next movie was Ennavale which did not have a good reach. Subsequently the whimsical film Minnale made Madhvan as one of the top heroes of Kollywood. He was also entitled as “Hrithik of Tamil Movie Industry.”

He worked with many experienced directors including K.B.Balachander and also done many big budget films. The year 2002 was an enormous year for Maddy. His two movies in that particular year were Kannathil Muthamittal and Run. Kannathil Muthamittal was a versatile film directed by Mani Rathnam. The movie Run saw a different Madhavan. The film was a great commercial hit which was directed by Lingusamy.

Madhavan is very cautious in choosing his roles. He has done a character role in the movie Layesa Layesa directed by the veteran director Priyadarshan. His acting in Ayudha Eluthu was unsurpassed. Note, Mani Ratnam has signed up with Madhavan for his last three films. This shows the actor’s caliber.

His forthcoming projects in Tamil are Thambi directed by Seeman and a bilingual film made in Tamil and Telugu titled Arya directed by Manoj Kumar. The recent news about Maddy is that he has got a baby boy. Let us wish the hero with successes throughout his carreer!
