Dumb and Dumber To is about two dumbos who are so dumb that they can’t dump their dumps in their own dump yards. Now, that’s one helluva meaningless frown-maker ain’t it? Well, that is Dumb and Dumber To for you. It is mindless and makes you frown throughout the movie.
Very unlike Dumb and Dumber, the first part of the film, which makes you laugh wholeheartedly at the atrocities of Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels), the movie wades through some gross comedy, which would keep you thinking whether to laugh or close your eyes as well as the eyes of the one sitting beside you.
The story trips through Harry’s quest for his grown daughter to request her to lend one of her grown kidneys to him. Lloyd tags along with him as a result of his unconditional lust for Harry’s daughter that he develops the moment he gets to see her picture.
Jim Carrey’s eccentricity in movies like Ace Ventura, Bruce Almighty and Me, myself and Irene give us many reasons to keep our eyes glued on the actor all through the movie. However, the level of sleaziness in the writing of this movie makes you want to look away from the screen although it hits your laughter nerve below the belt.
It appears as though both Bobby and Peter Farrelly have atrociously planned this movie to prevent people from hitting the popcorn counters as you would never want to eat whilst watching the film. As the censor certificate suggests, the movie has the letter ‘A’ written all over it and you might also want to keep those adults who have a ‘throwing-up’ problem, from watching the film.
Now, coming to what’s nice about the movie – the background score by the Empire of the Sun band is very neat, especially in the portions where Lloyd and Harry are on the move.
Apart from Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, Kathleen Turner (Fraida Felcher), the Pinchlows played by Laurie Holden, Rachel Melvin and Steve Tom have all essayed their roles to perfection.
On the whole, Dumb and Dumber To is dirty, yet watchable provided you have immense tolerance to schlocky visuals.
Verdict: A heavy dose of lowbred humor
