ANNABELLE: CREATION CAST & CREW
Production: James Wan, Peter Safran Cast: Anthony LaPaglia, Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman Direction: David F. Sandberg Screenplay: Gary Dauberman Story: Gary Dauberman Music: Benjamin Wallfisch Background score: Benjamin Wallfisch Cinematography: Maxime Alexandre

The creepy vintage demonic Annabelle doll continues to scare us. Though the first part of Annabelle met with mixed reviews, it was still a rousing success at the box office. With some improvement in the storyline and engagement factor, one could expect this prequel to do even better when it comes to making money.

The film ends exactly where the first part of Annabelle ended, but the starting points are different. This story takes place almost 12 years before the Annabelle part 1. So we are going back in time which gives a different look and feel to the script.

The meticulous production design, fashion and the interiors were all done in good taste and most importantly the props contributed to the scariness factor. However, the CGI work looked mediocre at few places. A couple of scenes looked so awful and demanded more detailing in graphics.

The problem with Annabelle: Creations is that there is so much of drama and build up, but very little fun scary moments. The last 20 minutes is, of course, the highlight of the film but you need to patiently sit through for the 90 odd minutes to get really entertained which is a tiresome process.

It was supposed to talk about the creation of Annabelle, but the story is completely different, and the Annabelle history wasn't explained properly.

Annabelle starts like any other horror film with not too much of fuzz and it takes more time to settle down than other highly rated scary films. There is plenty of drama in the initial phase and apart from one scary scene you hardly get anything interesting out of the 1st half.

There is nothing in the story to keep us constantly engaged and that is one area of concern but it takes an entirely different dimension before the pre-climax. And that is when you get some genuinely scary scenes that worked well. But with time, it got more gory than scary, so be prepared for that.

The Cinematography was a huge plus with camera angles that give you the point of view of the tormented victim so that you do not know what will happen next just like the character. But if only the screenplay were even tighter, we would have known his full potential. Nevertheless, the suspense intensified because of the camera work.

Verdict: The last 20 minutes will make your time worthwhile but it could have been much better
