HOUSEFULL MUSIC REVIEW
Review by : Gayathri Sarangarajan
Music Director : Shankar Ehsaan Loy
Vocals : Alyssa Mendonsa, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Loy Mendonsa, Mika, Neeraj Sridhar, Ritu Pathak, Sunidhi Chauhan, Tarun Sagar, Vivienne Pacha
Lyrics : Sameer and Amitabh Bhattacharya
First it was Heyy Babyy and now its Housefull - Director Sajid Khan returns with greater promises of a masala and commercial entertainer. One can say that this movie means fun guaranteed. Reasons One: the Sajids - both the director and producer - have made it clear that their movies mean entertainment. Two: Star cast includes Akshay Kumar and Ritesh Deshmukh. Three: Music composed by one of Bollywood’s favorite music director trio of Shankar- Ehsaan and Loy. Four: Lyrics has been penned by Sameer and Amitabh Bhattacharya.

Oh Girl, You’re Mine ...
Vocals: Tarun Sagar, Alyssa Mendonsa, Loy Mendonsa

This song has first time singers Tarun Sagar and

Alyssa Mendonsa (Loy’s daughter). Loy and Rithu Pathak join the jing bang as supporting singers. A simple yet catchy tune. It is obvious with the trio’s music that you can expect a dance number and this is it. Tarun’s voice has high levels of energy and Alyssa’s also blends well in this song. Loy crooning Oh Girl, You’re Mine is catchy.

Papa Jag Jayega...

Vocals: Ritu Pathak, Neeraj Sridhar, Alyssa Mendonsa, Amitabh Bhattacharya

Yet another groovy number. Sounds more like a remix and not original. The song is surely different and interesting. A fun song that raises your spirits. Neeraj Sridhar of Bombay Viking’s fame begins the song in his trademark way and later Alyssa joins him to add pep. There is a heavy use of instruments especially percussions. Lyrics are very colloquial and funny. Will surely be a hit with the college goers.

Aapka Kya Hoga (Dhanno)...

Vocals: Mika, Sunidhi Chauhan

Every true Bollywood or Amitabh Bachchan fan will surely recognize the song. A remix of the classic “Apni To Jaise Taise” (originally composed by Kalyanji Anandji and sung by Kishore Kumar). The interesting fact here is that instead of the traditional and routine remix, the trio has given a new feel interspersing the song with a fresh beginning and different lyrics. However, the similarity is shown in the ‘Aapka Kya Hoga’ portions. The old one is also more on the sensual lines with a lot of moaning. It is good to note that the moaning is hardly heard in the new version. Mika and Sunidhi have sung with high energy levels. A sure hit at the chartbuster.

I Don’t Know What to Do...
Vocals:
Sunidhi Chauhan, Shabbir Kumar

The 80’s mood continues with this song as well. Sunidhi begins the song with her usual grace and energy. The 80’s feel is reinforced when Shabbir comes in with his - I don’t know what to do… tauba… The use of Tabla, Shenai and Dolak is perfect for this song. Kind of reminiscence.

Loser...
Vocals:
Vivienne Pocha, Amitabh Bhattacharya

This song describes the character of the protagonist in the movie – Akshay. There is a fusion of western influence and Bombay flavor that is brought in by Amitabh’s lyrics. Yet another chartbuster topper.

Verdict:

Verdict: One thing about this album is that the songs are not intended to make a difference in the music world. The movie is an entertainer and the songs need to do the same. For this reason alone one could vote the songs to be good. If looked on just from the music perspective, the albums wouldn’t take off. But for an entertainer, the tracks are good. One thing that is difficult to understand is why the necessity to have more of English lyrics. After a while it gets boring and repetitive.
