DE DANA DAN MOVIE REVIEW
Review by : Harish.V
Starring: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Sameera Reddy, Neha Dhupia
Direction: Priyadarshan
Music: Pritam
Production: Eros International
Priyadarshan known for his unusual sense of comedy has been successful in most of his attempts but will his latest effort survive the test? De Dana Dan would be one occasion where you will be looking for an opportunity to laugh. The chemistry of the trio, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty which worked magic in Hera Pheri is ridiculed to nothingness in DDD.

Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) and Ram Mishra (Sunil Shetty) are two strugglers in life who are trying to find a way out of all their debts to a luxurious life. They devise a plan to achieve what they desire but as usual their plan goes haywire and as the plot thickens, new characters are being introduced and twists and turns increase. The plot similar to Hera pheri, is a series of mistaken identity which has been done many-a-times by other filmmakers ironically using the same set of actors too, but some how it doesn't work this time.

The stumbling first half and the complicated second half lead the movie to be termed as a ‘desperate‘ attempt to
  De Dana Dan
make the audience laugh. It would take the audience a strenuous effort to laugh their heart out in the movie. Some how Priyadarshan who has almost a cent percent record in comedies fails this time around. With lackluster screenplay and some weird ideas put together on paper and calling it a story is far off the mark.

Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty’s part is commendable whereas Paresh Rawal fails to impress. People who are going to expect another Baburao will be surely disappointed. Johnny Lever has tried hard to be funny enough to give the audience a glimmer of hope in the movie. As usual the element of actresses does not play much part in Priyadarshan’s comic capers. Katrina and Sameera Reddy look good and have done their work mechanically. Neha Dhupia exudes sexuality in her ‘item’ number which is one of the few good moments in this otherwise boring endeavor. Chunky Pandey is just about ok. Archana Puran Singh impresses but she is very loud to handle. The rest of the characters do not impress much.

The music composition by Pritam is worth mentioning and track composed by RDB for the song Paisa is creditable. The cinematography by Ekambaram is exemplary. The editor has done justice to what was given.

With so many great talents in hand Priyadarshan has failed to utilize them to his advantage and ended up giving us a roller coaster ride sans the tracks.

Verdict: Stars+Confusion+Mess=Disaster (read it as De Dana Dan)
