It has been quite a while since we had seen a full-fledged masala mass entertainer from Pawan Kalyan. If you’re one of those ardent Powerstar fans who are waiting for your favorite star to entertain you with a clichéd power packed typical mass film, Sardaar Gabbar Singh is here for you to rejoice. Besides acting and co-funding the venture, Pawan Kalyan has also penned the film’s story and screenplay.

Sardaar Gabbar Singh has a pretty straightforward story which is about  an evil coal mafia lord Bhairav Singh who wants to expropriate the lands of the villagers in Rattanpur, by force. Arshi (Kajal) a princess from the same village is feeble and helpless. And when the going gets tough the tough get going. That is when the hero comes to people’s rescue. A clichéd fairy tale story that has few interesting moments for Pawan Kalyan fans to relish.

The first half of the film in particular moves at a very slow pace as it takes time to establish the characters. And as it approaches the half way mark, the film shifts gear and picks up some speed. The action scenes are a delight to watch especially if you’re a Powerstar fan.  Both the interval and the climax portions are two of the standout points of the film which make you leave the theatre hall with a certain degree of satisfaction level.

It is an out and out Pawan Kalyan show. He has given a thoroughly satisfactory performance as an actor. Be it the dance moves or the body language, he has given his best shot. Gabbar Singh is the happy go lucky cop who doesn't go by the books and likes to goof around with his uncanny methods. The bar scene, where Pawan makes his intentions loud and clear to the goons of Rattanpur that he is not one of those joker cops who they can take him for granted, is good.

The comedies are pretty ok. Not very convincing but not so annoying at the same time. The love portion and comedies come in as a relief in an otherwise serious plot. Brahmanandam’s comedy portions could have been better.

Though the songs are pretty functional and not up to the expected mark, DSP scores high with the superlative high voltage background score which sets the tone of the film.

Verdict: Pawan Kalyan show all the way! But that’s just not enough…
