Rajinikanth first mentioned the reasons why he had called for a press meet. "I called for a press meet in order to make things clear regarding my entry to politics. The rumours regarding my supposed political entry dates back to 1996. But the truth is that I announced it myself only on December 31, 2017. Till then, whenever people asked me, I used to say that it is in God's hands. Now to quash the rumours and make my stand clear, I have called for this meet.'
