Naduvan is a film written and directed by Sharang, and it has Bharath Niwas, Aparna Vinod and Gokul Anand as a part of its starcast. Aruvi Bala too plays an important supporting role. The film is produced by Lucky Chhajer under the banner Cue Entertainment and has music and cinematography by Dharan Kumar and Yuvaraj respectively.

Bharath plays the role of Karthik, the owner of a Tea factory in Kodaikanal. He prioritizes work over his wife Madhu (played by Aparna Vinod), and she's left disappointed more often than not. Aruvi Bala plays the role of Guru, a new recruit in the factory. When Guru runs an errand for Karthik, he witnesses Madhu having an illicit affair with Shiva (played by Gokul Anand). The drama that follows this forms the rest of the plot.

Since the film's emotional core is based on Karthik and Madhu's relationship that's hanging on a thread, there should have been enough scenes to convey the nature of their marriage. But all we get is a scene where Karthik doesn't eat his breakfast fully, and we are supposed to assume that the relationship is not going well.

The affair angle is brought in as a twist, but you can see it coming before it actually does, because of the forced sequences. For instance, Karthik asks Shiva to cancel a meeting because he's left a file at home, but in the very next scene, you see Karthik asking Guru to bring the file from the house because there's a meeting. You can easily figure out that something is wrong at home. Add it up to Madhu's dissatisfaction, and you can guess that she's having an affair.

The rest of the film could have dealt with whether Karthik manages to find out about the affair, but the plot meanders somewhere else and it becomes a murder mystery, which too doesn't have much depth. There is another scene where Gokul Anand is introduced - he is moving his hands as if he's indulging in self-pleasure. Then the next shot shows he's actually cleaning a fish bowl. It could have been a normal introduction shot, but the need to misdirect the audience looks unnecessary.

The performances of the leads are decent, but with a wafer-thin storyline, their performances don't do enough to save the film. They're left with too much work to do. Both the cinematography and music works well in parts, but for most of the run-time, it is at best okay-ish. The songs at regular intervals also become speed breakers to the already slow pace of the film.

The film has flaws but the base for most of them ends up as the writing. Both the screenplay and the dialogues look amateurish, and the film could have had more 'silent' moments. This means, the visuals should have done the talking more than the characters, the lack of which results in the actors saying what's already been conveyed to the audience.

Naduvan had a lot of potential to become a solid thriller, but there is a lot of visible confusion as of where the film is heading. The genre shifts are not smooth and that affects the engagement as well. The humour doesn't do well enough to elicit laughs.

Verdict: Naduvan misses out to engage in spite of an interesting thriller premise.
