Aindham Thalaimurai Siddha Vaidhiya Sigamani (ATSVS) – that’s really a mouthful! This tough tongue twister of a title is special for Bharath as it marks the 25th film of the actor. Helmed by Ravichandran, the film aims to be an easy go lucky comedy offering with mild somberness on and off.

ATSVS attempts to tell the importance of education and in some ways the role of parents in shaping the future of children. That said, the film does not go on an overdrive mode in a preachy session which works well for it.

Bharath is the fifth generation son of a family which has been practicing Siddha medicine for a long time. He drops out of school for a very flimsy reason but continues the family tradition of Siddha treatment of patients. To fill the gap of his illiteracy, he wants to seek a life partner who is educated. What happens when he gets a bride of his choice forms the rest of ATSVS.

Director Ravichandran has chosen the path of humor to narrate his story but the laughs are not always well-tailored, sometimes bordering on mediocrity and very basic writing. Audience who is used to intelligent humor may find lameness in certain sequences in the film.

Bharath is extremely sincere, does his role with utmost dedication, dances well as usual, fights with vigor, romances the heroine with all his love and also shows the ‘right cheek’ to people who have beaten him on the left cheek. In short, he is the ‘perfect’ hero which Tamil cinema has nurtured since time immemorial with absolutely no shades of grey or black whatsoever. Even when his friends push him to a commercial sex worker, he maintains his perfect stature and also lends his other friend more money despite knowing that his buddy had cheated him big time.

Nanditha is adequate and to some extent has a role of decent proportion. We all know Thambi Ramaiah knows his business too well but in ATSVS, he goes a little overboard with his vocal chords.

The list of the supporting cast is quite long just like the title of the film. Kaadhal Dandapani, Renuka, Mano Bala, Singam Puli, Chaams, Karunakaran, Badava Gopi, Imman Annachi, Bose Venkat and M S Bhaskar have done their parts with no serious complaints. For people who sit up seeing the name of Karunakaran on the title card, it is a disappointment as the talented actor does not have much to do.

While we can relax and enjoy the humor in scenes like the one with ‘Arasu’ land and the tomato soup, we cannot say the same with the one involving the much intoxicated Chaams with his wife and Thambi Ramaiah. Same goes when Chaams gets beaten by Thambi.

The film travels on a standard template of song, action, humor, romance and sentiment in varying proportion. As its ambitions are modest, one cannot scan it with an advanced magnifier.  In short ATSVS achieves fairly what it sets out to.  If you are the type who would not take cinema seriously, ATSVS may appeal to you in some ways.

Verdict: A standard template film of song, action, humor and romance that works in parts.
