HEROINES WHO SHOOK UP THE SYSTEM

It is a male-dominated industry no doubt and heroines more often than not have precious little to do besides look pretty, get their shimmy on, and scream in the right places. It was marginally better in the 80s when leading ladies like Revathi, Nadia, Saritha, and Radhika did films where the female protagonists were strong women who stood up to their men. Many modern day actresses sleep walk through their roles and don’t even bother with proper diction. But every so often, a film does come along that gives the female lead a chance to shine and steal the thunder from their male counterparts. Let’s take a look at such heroines who shook up the system.

Simran
Simran
In one of her earliest films, ‘Once More’, Simran attempts to kill Vijay but not before seducing him with sweet words and provocative gestures in order to avenge herself upon him for being responsible for her sister’s suicide. Little wonder that she stood out from the others. Later, Simran would perfect the art of playing the coquettish siren but in films like Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi and Parthale Paravasam, she went back to being bold and gutsy by playing unconventional, tough characters.
