He is a martial arts expert. Born and raised in Chennai, he was educated at Christ Church School and later at Chennai State College. He later settled in Mumbai and died today in Mumbai due to ill health. He is 70.

Actor Salim Ghouse is best known in India for his performances in Red, Chinna Gounder, Vettaikaaran, Vettri Vizhaa, Thiruda Thiruda amongst others.

Salim Ghouse started his acting career in 1978 with Swarg Narak, followed by Chakra (1981), Saaransh (1984) and Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984).

He played the villain for Kamal Haasan in the 1989 film Vettri Vizhaa directed by Prathap Poten. He co-starred with Mohanlal in the classic Malayalam film 'Thazhvaram' directed by Bharathan 'Thevar Magan' and became famous in Kerala. He played the villain in Mani Ratnam's Thiruda Thiruda in 1993, and co-starred with Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan in the 1997 film Koila, and then in 2022 with Ajith in the role of Nelpettai Cheeni in Red. and played the villain in Vijay starrer Vettaikaaran (2009).

Salim Ghouse was also a well-known face in the TV series. He was seen as Shyam Benegal, Ram, Krishna and Tipu Sultan in the Bharat Ek Khoj series.
