Vijay's latest project was Bigil with director Atlee. Atlee began his career in the industry by working as an assistant director with Shankar in Enthiran. He debuted as a director with Raja Rani, and since then has directed three other films - Theri, Mersal, and Bigil - all featuring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role.

Theri featured Vijay in the role of Joseph Kuruvilla, who has a mysterious past - and why he lives in such an identity other than his real name - Vijay Kumar - forms the crux of the story. Mersal saw Vijay in not one or two - but in triple action.

Vijay played the role of Vetrimaaran, and his sons Vetri and Maaran in the movie - a spectacular thriller action movie. Up next, the latest Bigil saw Vijay in the role of Michael Rayappan and Bigil - a father son duo - a father who has taken up the lifestyle of a don for a living and a son passionate for football and how his live changes after his father's death and how he takes up football again forms the entire movie.
