It so happened that yesteryear producer Balaje's daughter Suchitra madly fell in love with the then-budding actor, who was all poised for super-stardom.

Her brother Suresh Balaje spilt the details in a throwback interview. It so happened that Suchi wrote letters to Lal and the latter reciprocated. When a family member of Suchi approached Lal's family with a proposal, everything fell in place. Though it was an arranged marriage, Suchitra had long fallen in love.

Suchitra and Lal married on April 28, 1988. They are parents to two wonderful children - Pranav and Vismaya. Pranav has followed in his father footsteps while there is a strong buzz that Vismaya might assist the Superstar in his first directorial - Barroz.
