“MANI SIR THREW ME OUT!”

Debut director Dhana, who was a former assistant to director Mani Ratnam, is all set to witness the release of his directorial venture “Padai Veeran” starring Bharathiraja and Vijay Yesudas in the lead roles. The director, in an exclusive chat with Behindwoods, said:

“I assisted Mani sir in two films, namely Kadal and OK Kanmani. Post OK Kanmani, I insisted to work on his next, but sir threw me out and said if I stay with him for more than 5 years, it means I haven’t learnt anything. Hence I set out scripting. What happened next was my Padai Veeran which has Bharathiraja and Vijay Yesudas in the lead roles. Bharathiraja was apt for the character, and my finished script got a heads up from Mani sir himself. He asked me to add something related to my personal experience in life to pep up the proceedings and what turned out was this script produced by my brother.”
