Mayilsamy quietly helped the people of Chennai during times like the floods and the pandemic. Over the past few days, there have been reports that he will run as an independent candidate in the forthcoming assembly elections.

Mayilsamy, who has issued an official announcement today, has confirmed that he is contesting as an independent from Virugambakkam. Mayilsamy is said to have a lot of influence in the constituency as he did various aids to the people of the area during difficult times.
