Ambasamudram Judicial Magistrate Court acquitted Director Bala from a defamation case filed against him for portrayal of Singampatti zamindar in Thirunelveli and the Sorimuthu Iyyanaar temple in his movie 'Avan Ivan'.

The comedy-drama film, released in the year 2011 featured Vishal and Arya in lead roles. The plot revolves around the half brothers whose lives take a dramatic turn after they fall in love and face problems post their involvement with gangsters.

The defamation case was filed by Zamindar as he stated that the movie depicted the Sorimuthu Ayyanar temple and the Singampatti zamindars in a bad taste. The Singampatti Zamindar died last year and the case still went on after that. After ten years of trial, Magistrate J Karthikeyan acquitted Director Bala today (August 19) stating lack of evidence in the case. 

Earlier, Arya who was accused in the case was also relieved after he apologised for hurting the sentiments of the community.
