Speaking of director Mani Ratnam, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, he said, “When I meet them or talk to them, my whole behavior changes, I become like a child. When I talk of Mani sir, I can’t call him anything else. It is the respect I have for him.”

Madhavan opened up about his contemporaries Suriya, Vijay, Ajith and Vikram and said, “Suriya and I have been friends ever since he did ‘Nerukku Ner’, I thought both of them did a great job. He and I became good friends. When ‘Alaipayuthey’ released, he praised me a lot. He is good hearted and very genuine. Ajith, Vijay, Vikram and Suriya are all true gentlemen and we have a cordial relationship. They all came home when my son was born and I also have a photograph of all of us together.”

The actor, who worked on television shows before films, he said, “Before ‘Alaipayuthey’, I had done around 1800 episodes which is a total of about 900 hours. It converts to around 300 films. I had so much experience before I did my first film, so calling it my first film does no justice.”

Talking about his sense of choosing scripts, the actor added, “Even while doing television, I used to think of whether a scene or dialogue is good. While doing ‘Alaipayuthey’, I used to ask Mani sir whether we need a scene, do we have to do that scene and he used to get angry with me. Then he used to call me and explain it. We used to discuss and argue about it.”

Speaking about the lockdown, Madhavan said, “People initially took it lightly, now the mindset of people is changing, they are stressed out and worried. Now with this change, as an actor, I have to see what will entertain the people and choose scripts accordingly.”

Madhavan will next be seen in ‘Maara’ alongside Shraddha Srinath directed by debutant Dhilip Kumar. ‘Maara’ is the actor’s second collaboration with Shraddha Srinath after ‘Vikram Vedha’.
