FIR FILED AGAINST BOLLYWOOD CASTING DIRECTOR FOR ALLEGED RAPE OF TV ACTRESS

The accused and the victim knew each other since the last two years, the official said. The accused had assured the actress that he will marry her, but when backtracked on his promise, the woman lodged the FIR, he said.

“We have registered the FIR against the accused under Indian Penal Code Section 376 (rape). No arrest has been made.We are conducting an investigation into the case,” Versova’s senior police inspector Raghvendra Thakur was quoted as saying.

Earlier, in a report that was released by Prajnya Trust, titled ‘Gender Violence in India 2020’ that provided insights into gender-related crimes across the country including the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender violence, five Indian states — Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh — reported the bulk of the crimes committed against women in the country in 2019.

The report stated that as many as 5,529 cases of kidnapping and abduction of women were reported in 1955 which went up to 72,780 in 2019 as compared to 72,751 in 2018. It further added that incidents of rape, first recorded in 1975, have grown as much as 10 times from 3,376 to 32,033 in 2019.

The report also made a mention of the #MeToo movement and said that by and large “blown over with many of the accused resuming their professional lives, while those making the accusations have suffered personal and professional damage”.
