Actor Dulquer Salmaan's latest film 'Varane Avashyamund' released on Netflix last week. The film also stars Suresh Gopi, Shobhana and Kalyani Priyadharshan. Ever since its Netflix premiere the film has been receiving positive responses from the viewers.

Dulquer Salmaan apologises for a joke from his latest film

The film has a scene in which Suresh Gopi character calls a dog 'prabhakara'. Though this scene was intended to be comical, it generated extreme reactions from Tamil Nadu people who misinterpreted the scene as a reference to Tamil leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

To clear the air on this supposedly controversial dialouge, Dulquer took to twitter to provide a clarification. He said that “A lot of people have brought to my notice that the Prabhakaran joke in Varane Avashyamund is insulting to the Tamizh people. It was not intentional. The joke is a reference to an older Malayalam film Pattanapravesham and is a common Meme in Kerala. It is a common name in Kerala as well so it wasn’t directed at any person living or dead as our disclaimer mentions in the beginning of the film.” In response to the hate and abuse messages that him and director Anoop Satyan received, he wrote “Hating on me and my director Anoop we can accept. Kindly keep it to us and not our fathers or senior actors from the film. I apologise to all of the good and kind Tamizh people who felt offended. I have never intended to offend anyone through my films or my words. It’s genuinely a misunderstanding.”

He further posted a clip from "Pattanapravesham", from which 'prabhakara' dialouge was taken and was supposed to be then intended reference for his film's dialouge, but some people mistook it.
