Kaala is director Pa Ranjith's last directorial to get released. It hit the screens on 7th June 2018, and had Rajinikanth in the titular role. Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Samuthirakani, Manikandan, and others played crucial supporting roles, while Nana Patekar was roped in to play the antagonist.
The film was critically acclaimed for its accurate portrayal of the issues faced by oppressed people. Director Anurag Kashyap, who has the habit of showering accolades on any deserving movie he sees, took to Twitter to praise Kaala.
He tweeted: "So late to see Kaala but now I want to see all the films of @beemji" This was in response to Pa Ranjith's tweet: "Dear @anuragkashyap72 ,I have been a big fan of your films. Happy to have spent this evening with you. I am glad you liked #Kaala 🎉🎉. Thanks for the conversation and the great food.🎉🎉🎉"
Kaala had music by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography by G Murali. It was produced by Dhanush under the banner Wunderbar Films and distributed by Lyca Productions. The movie marked Ranjith's second consecutive collaboration with the superstar, after Kaala. Before this film, Thiagarajan Kumararaja's Super Deluxe was raved by Anurag Kashyap.
Anurag is currently working on his next production titled Saand ki Aankh, while Pa Ranjith is directing the biopic of Birsa Munda, that marks his Bollywood debut. Stay tuned for more updates.
