“IF IT HAD NOT BEEN AN IMPORTANT ROLE, I WOULD NOT HAVE SAID YES TO 2.0”

Adil Hussain, the much talented actor who is known for his work in films in Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, English and Marathi made his Tamil debut through Yatchan. He will soon add Malayalam also to this list when he makes his debut through Naval Enna Jewel directed by Renjilal Damodaran.

Adil tells behindwoods about this film and what made him choose it.

“When the team approached me for this film, I was a little hesitant as I don’t know the language. But they were keen and I was also convinced that this story must be told.

It is based on a true story. It is about justice systems and how women are oppressed all over the world, more in some countries than others. The film is set in Iran and we shot in Muscat and Tehran. The characters are half Iranian, half Malayalee and full Iranians too. I have played the role of an Iranian Intelligence Officer which is a very pivotal one. Most of the film happens between two characters. The lead role is done by Reem Kadem and an equally important role is done by Shwetha Menon. We shot in two different languages, English and Malayalam.

Since I have essayed an Iranian character, my Malayalam can be a little raw and rough. I have spoken Malayalam with an Iranian accent. It is a little difficult for an East Indian to speak Malayalam but I somehow managed and we finished on time. The film was done in sync sound technology and my voice only was used. The film’s release is planned around Onam”.

We heard you are also doing Shankar’s 2.0

“Yes. I am also doing Shankar’s 2.0. I am not supposed to divulge any information on this. All that I can say is it is an important role, otherwise I would not have taken it. I am yet to shoot my parts and most probably I will shoot my portions in May or June. I am very much looking forward to this film”.
