It is sad to know that we have to wake up to the news about the sudden death of the legendary writer/director/lyricist Panchu Arunachalam. We, at Behindwoods, bring you important details about this legend.


Panchu was the man who introduced ‘Isaignani’ Ilayaraja to the industry through the film Annakili in 1976. He has written stories for 45 films and screenplay and dialogues for over 90 films. He has also directed and produced many films, apart from writing. After assisting Kavignar Kannadasan, he started writing lyrics from 1965 and till now, in a span of 51 years, the legend has written lyrics for more than 300 songs.


He is known for giving a large number of hit films with a variety of subjects, thereby making a big difference in the film career of Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. He has written stories for 23 films of Rajinikanth’s and 13 films of Kamal Haasan’s.


Some of his notable films, as a writer, include Murattu Kaalai, Sakalakala Vallavan, Thambikku Endha Ooru, Guru Sishyan, Aboorva Sagodharargal, Singaravelan, Veera, Pokkiri Raja, Dharmadurai, Manithan, Kalyana Raman, Rajathi Raja, Aarilirundhu Aruvadhuvarai, Priya, Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri, etc.
