SURIYA SAYS, “PLEASE SET AN EXAMPLE IN THE WAY YOU TREAT SENIOR ARTISTS”

Nadigar Sangam elections are over with the Pandavar Ani led by Nasser winning the same. The events leading to the elections were marked by fiercely fought verbal battle, most of the times involving a lot of mudslinging over each other.

Suriya had issued an advisory note on this to the newly elected Nadigar Sangam, which reads as follows:

This election has taught us a lot of lessons. Election campaign had witnessed many regrettable incidents. In the name of criticism, there were many personal attacks. Peacekeeping measures had failed. Duties done at the time of holding the office were portrayed as personal favors. While on one side, proclaiming ‘actors are one family’, on the other side, there were widespread activities to divide this ‘family’ based on caste and language. People were ridiculed because of the success and failure of their films. Acts of extending support to favorite ones had resulted in receiving abuses without considering the age and experience of artists, forgetting basic etiquette. It is all our responsibility that such situations don’t make an appearance ever again.

As a fellow artist, these are my pleas to the new team. I request you not to take your responsibilities as favors. Please set an example in the way you treat senior artists. Strive for the welfare of all the artists. Please fulfill your promises sincerely. Sow seeds of unity, chasing away animosity. The trust and expectations that fellow artists had vested in you are your first triumph. Let us all work towards the growth and development of artists and the film industry together.
