''It's been so hard for me that I don't want anyone else to go through it'' - Deepika Padukone

With cameras constantly surrounding everywhere, very less personal space, back-to-back shooting schedules, sleepless nights, continued travel across the globe and unforgiving jet lag, the life of a celebrity is not as glitzy and glamorous as it sounds. Recently, in an interview on a popular television channel, Deepika Padukone opened up about her sad phase of depression which evolved in early 2014.

She decided to open up about her problem and discuss it on national television hoping to create a change in the society and making people aware about this state of mind.

Excerpts from that interview are as follows:

About how she realised she was going through depression she said, "I woke up one morning just feeling empty, you know like this pittish feeling in my stomach. I woke up like feeling directionless, I didn't know where to go, I didn't know what to do and I had these bouts of feeling so low that I would just start crying at the drop of the hat".

"I think for me it was a lot of you know, there were days when I woke up and felt like, it was just too exhausting. You know, it was just too exhausting. I didn't want to wake up. There were days when I just wanted to be in the bed just sleep, not wake up."

When asked about how scary the situation was, she said, "It is definitely scary, I mean and I think that's why I am doing this because it's been so hard for me that I don't want anyone else to go through it."

About how effective it is, when depression is taken to doctors, Shyam (Deepika's counsellor) said, "I think it is more than treatable, it is transformative. I think the process of taking care of your depression is a voice of self-awareness and self-discovery and optimizing your lifestyle and your mind".

The experts from the interview tell that depression is curable when people start to approach it by talking about it openly without a stigma. Deepika is also set to start a mental health care foundation to help the many who are suffering from this ailment.

We appreciate this bold initiative of Deepika to open up in public and help the needy. We are sure it has inspired many.
