A trend analysis of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan's film over the last ten years.

Two names that define Tamil cinema are Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. The two living legends have contributed to the film industry immensely and their persona has travelled globally. Somehow, the number of times the duo has appeared on screen (individually in films) in recent times in a year seems relatively lesser than the 80s and 90s era.

Analysing the trend of last ten years, Kamal seems to have appeared in the silverscreen for about 6 films and Rajinikanth has appeared in about 5 films. Now these are full length Tamil feature films that had them in the lead roles between 2005 and 2015.

Let's take a quick look into the films the two have acted and entertained the audience in every aspect.

> When we look at 2005, Mumbai Express and Chandramukhi catered to a different set of audience. While Mumbai Express was critically acclaimed, Chandramukhi was a blockbuster.

> Immediately after Mumbai Express, in 2006, Kamal acted in Gautham Menon's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. This cop story was one of the cult movies and became a huge hit.

> Rajinikanth went out and out commercial with a social angle in 2007: Sivaji. With Shankar extravaganza in the film, Sivaji is talked about even today.

> In 2008, Kamal quite literally appeared in ten different roles in one film: Dasavathaaram. With his versatile performance and acting, this film gained immense popularity.

Unnaipol Oruvan swept off everyone's feet with Kamal's simple and common man stature in 2009.

> After 2005,  2010 was a real treat for the fans of both Kamal and Rajinikanth. Yes, Manmadhan Ambu and Enthiran released in the same year and satisfied both of their fans.

> 2011 and 2012 was a break for both of them and none of their films released these two years. But audiences awaited for the next master piece which released in 2013.

> Kamal's Viswaroopam was a well recieved movie in 2013. After a rough road of controversies, this intelligent piece of art form was appreciated by everyone.

> The year 2014 was dear and near for Rajinikanth as his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth debuted as director with Kochadaiiyaan and his Lingaa released on his birthday.

With Uttama Villain releasing this year (2015), let's wait for announcement from Rajini's side for his next!
