THE TITLE TROUBLES OF VIJAY!

It's not uncommon for an actor's films to have disputes over titles. The immense pressures of finalizing a catchy title can make the directors and producers seek help from the past - by using titles of successful yesteryear movies, thereby creating a sort of buzz. Taking a close look at Vijay's films in the recent past reveals that his titles have gone through major iterations. Here's how.

Vettaikaran - When this title was floated, it created ripples among the fans of the legendary actor / politician, MGR, because it was borrowed from his 1964 film. Peace was restored soon after and the movie was able to use the title.

Kaavalan - Vijay's sleeper hit Kaavalan was supposed to be called Kaavalkaran. The earlier suggested title Kaavalkaran was later changed to Kaavalan.

Thuppakki - Perhaps the most recent of his title troubles was for Thuppakki. There is another movie by the name Kalla Thuppakki (which is still waiting for release) and Murugadoss and his team had a long running legal battle with the Kalla Thuppakki team over usage of the title Thuppakki. Finally justice prevailed and ARM and team went ahead and released their movie with the title Thuppakki.

Although various titles like Thalaivan, Dharmathin Thalaivan and Thangamagan are being reportedly considered for Vijay’s new untitled film with director Vijay, no title has been finalized as yet.
