Movies based on real-life incidents are becoming more common these days in our movies. Vinmeengal is one such. Touted to be a family drama, Vinmeengal is directed by Vignesh Menon who makes his debut with this film. Although the film is based in Chennai, the real-life incident that is said to have inspired the movie took place in the USA.

Vinmeengal underwent a title change recently from its working title Odi Vaa. The movie has multiple tales strung together forming the narrative – some of them being, a family’s struggle to lead a normal existence and a magician’s extraordinary talent that transformed lives. All these stories are connected with a single thread – love, the director says.

The movie’s lead roles are performed by Rahul Ravindran, Vishwa, Shikha and Anuja Iyer. Shot widely in Chennai and Ooty, the movie also has Pandiarajan playing an offbeat role. Vignesh has written and directed the movie that is produced by Maanas Film Corporation. Music is scored by Jubin for Na. Muthukumar’s lyrics. The audio of the film was recently released.

Rahul, who plays the male lead in the movie, stepped into the world of cinema with Moscowin Kavery. “In Vinmeengal, I play Jeeva, a school teacher with cerebral palsy, who is confined to a wheelchair,” he says. Rahul says that it required a lot of research and hard work on his part to play a cerebral palsy patient.

Vinmeengal is releasing this weekend all over, filling in the lull before the weeks of summer vacation.
