Cheran is demanding about 5 lakhs from prospective assistant directors who want to train under him. According to the director, the attrition rate of the assistant directors is just too much; therefore, he is demanding 5 lakhs from each assistant director with a rider that they must work with him in at least in three films.

Cheran says that he would return the money soon after the stipulated period ends with a conduct certificate. This would help the assistant directors to know the nuances of the trade and get a stronghold in the film industry, feels the actor-director.
