We know you are multifaceted – music direction, production, singing and now acting- how do you manage to juggle?

I always try to do something different and explore new horizons. Only these things fascinate me...or else I would be bored.

Coming to Darling - How different is Darling from its original version, Prema Katha Chitram?

Darling is different; we have retained all the interesting scenes and changed some parts to suit the local sensibilities. It was a quickie and we shot the movie in 33 days. Sam (Director) and I- we go a long way back. He has worked so hard to get the script right. There is so much of effort gone into the project and we are glad that the audiences like it.

As an actor, you are two movies old now (Darling & Pencil) and also have another movie, ready to roll. How would you rate yourself as an actor now?

I feel the audience will have to tell how good I am now... I can see I have grown as an actor. When I forayed into production, people asked me why? They asked me the same question again before Darling’s release- why an actor? You can’t judge a book by its cover but I am always going to keep trying.

How sharp is Pencil now?

Pencil is shaping up well, it is a different genre from the usual - the screenplay will be path breaking. It will be a thriller and will indeed have its own sweet romance but will be spoken about for its unique screenplay.

Your favorite number that you have sung during your childhood days?

I don’t like my childhood songs; I generally don’t listen to them. I like all the songs that I sing now. I sing only if I am really impressed with the tune.

How was it to see yourself on the screen in a ruggedly handsome look, considering people love your boyish charm?

I wanted a makeover and that was my reason to sport a beard. In fact Sam felt the beard suited the character and that is how I was roped in for Darling.

What type of movies would you like to act in the future?

As far as the script is unique and different, I don’t mind the genre. I don’t like to repeat the same stuff over and again.

Tell us something about Trisha Illana Nayanthara, your upcoming movie?

The movie has been in its pre-production phase for a while, since we wanted to get things perfect before beginning. Finally, the team has planned to start rolling from the 22nd of January and is also planning to release the first look poster of the movie by the end of this month.

How different is it to compose music for your own movie?

It is fun to compose for your own self and it does make me happy. But at the end of the day, it is just another assignment like any other and I don’t think much about it.

You might have to compose for a happy number, but your mood might not be as such and vice versa. How do you manage to strike the right chord on such occasions?

Yes, you are right. That is what makes us different from other artistes in the industry. We have to be continuously working towards satisfying the audience expectations, particularly the younger generation. So, I prioritize my interests solely on their interests.

Tell us your take on Ghost Gopal Varma (Naan Kadavul Rajendran), the character that has been grabbing a lot of eyeballs of late.

It is a fun filled role; you will enjoy it while watching it on screen and it was me who wanted to cast Rajendran for this particular role in the first place.

Vijay 59 - We request you to share some tidbits about the movie, which will fuel up all the Vijay fans?

So much of hard work has gone into the movie. Not just Atlee and me but the entire team is working day and night to give the best possible numbers for this film. The album will have at least 2 romantic songs that will satisfy die hard romantic fans and will also have the necessary massy elements to keep all Vijay fans pumped up. I am sure you will love it.

Vijay59 will have the necessary massy elements to keep all Vijay fans pumped up.

Tell us what a GV fan can expect from your future albums?

Komban - I am getting back to pure folk music after Aadukalam. It is one album that I am waiting for people to listen.

Kaaka Muttai - will be truly international

Pencil - a feel good breezy album

Trisha Illana Nayanthara - Will be a ‘Thara’ local album.

Visaranai - will not be having songs, but its BGM will be a talking point.

I am getting back to pure folk music after Aadukalam

What is your take on musical concerts? When can we see, GV the rock star performing on stage?

My fans keep asking me this question. A concert requires a maximum of 30 numbers and I have more than 100 songs. But if I am going to do a concert it should be in a league of its own with totally different concepts. I have plans and I hope it materializes soon.

Your favorite instruments?

Guitar and Piano

You are one of the very few composers who have worked with Rajini, Vijay, Ajith and Vikram. How has the journey been so far? The list will be complete if we add one more name to it (Kamal).

I am truly blessed to have worked with Ajith sir, that too in my second film at the age of 20 and also with Rajini sir for my 5th film and then later with Vijay sir for Thalaivaa. It is like a dream come true. I am also honored to have been associated with, one of my favorite film makers, Anurag Kashyap for Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 1 &2 and now for Ugly.

I am striving hard to work with Kamal sir; I am just yearning to work with him and if given a chance I will grab it with both hands.

One Kamal sir movie you would like to remake?

Kamal sir is a legend and I don’t see any actor, who could do justice to his roles. All his movies are cult classics and it would be an achievement of sorts if you could manage to do even half of what he has done.

I am striving hard to work with Kamal sir; I am just yearning to work with him and if given a chance I will grab it with both hands.

Tell us something about the two pretty ladies from Darling?

Both Nikki Galrani and Srushti Dange have given their best to their respective roles. You will know the effort they have put in the project while watching the movie.

One director you would like to work with?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

We recently came across your tweet about the movie PK. Are you a God loving person?

PK was amazing and I just loved the film. Yeah, I do believe in God. I am a Baba devotee.
