Paul Wyman from England is a member of a local charity. He also routinely collects donations from charities and donates them to the organization. So, he went to a shop in Essex in October 2020 to collect donations. He came across a strange old note in the donation bill. He also wondered if this was probably invalid money.

Paul has since taken the note to an auction house. That's when the authorities gave him a pleasant surprise. The currency note, printed as 100 Palestinian pounds, was printed in 1917. They also say they can get up to 30,000 euros if sold at auction.

These notes, printed by order of the British in 1917, were issued to higher authorities. So far less than 10 of these notes have been found. This is why the value of the currency note is so high, officials at the auction house said. So Paul decided to put this note up for auction.

Auction

Paul handed over the rare note to the auction house last February. The auction for this currency note took place online on April 28 last. The rare rupee note sold for 140,000 euros (1.35 crore rupees in Indian currency) at the bustling auction.

Speaking on the occasion, Paul said, "I realised that I was holding something in my hands that was incredibly rare. I couldn’t believe it when it went for £140,000."

Speaking on the occasion, Elaine Funk, Spin's currency notes expert, said: "The auctioneers originally valued it at £30,000 and I was amazed at that already - never mind £140,000. Up until then, I don't think I really believed it could be a real note because they are so incredibly rare."
