For the first time in American history, a black woman is set to become the nation's Supreme Court judge. This is welcomed by many.

The U.S. Senate has voted to appoint a black woman named Ketanji Brown Jackson as the new judge of the prestigious U.S. Supreme Court. Ketanji Brown Jackson won the poll by a margin of 53-47, led by Kamala Harris. This confirms her appointment as a judge of the US Supreme Court.

Stephen Fryer, currently a U.S. Supreme Court judge, is due to retire in a few days. Earlier, US President Joe Biden approved the appointment of Jackson as a judge last year. However, Democrats opposed the appointment of Jackson as a Supreme Court judge. It was thus announced that a referendum would be held and a decision would be taken on its basis. In this case, Jackson won the referendum in the Senate.

Ketanji Brown Jackson, 51, is currently serving as a judge in a Washington court. She holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard College and a law degree from Harvard Law School. Not only that, but Jackson is a close friend of former US President Barack Obama. Because of this, Jackson, a Republican supporter, was appointed District Judge in 2010 by then-US President Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, during the election campaign, Biden promised to appoint a black African American as Supreme Court judge. In the meantime, the US Senate has given the green light to Jackson's appointment as Supreme Court Justice.

This is the first time in the history of the United States that a black woman has been elected Chief Justice of the United States. Senators stood up and applauded Jackson's victory in the referendum.
