A tsunami alert has been issued for Japan following a powerful earthquake
A magnitude 7.3 earthquake shook the region of Fukushima and Miyagi in northern Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake was felt at a depth of about 60 km under the sea.
This has caused great fear among the people of that country. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. It is said that a tsunami wave may have already hit a few areas. The quake caused power outages in Tokyo. As a result, it is estimated that about 20 lakh households may have lost access to electricity.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has released a report. It said the quake struck at 11:36 pm local time on Wednesday at a depth of 60 km under the sea. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued.
