As the world records 1 million mark of cases with 50,000 deaths so far, United States (US) President Donald Trump urged people to be safe and wear mask. He has also advised all Americans to wear masks in public to protect themselves against the deadly coronavirus.

Trump rejects his own administrative advice on wearing masks

Soon after US recorded a rise in COVID-19 deaths with 1,480 dead, President Trump said the government has recommended all 330 million Americans to wear non-medical masks in places such as grocery stores and other places.

"It's going to be really a voluntary thing. You don't have to do it and I'm choosing not to do it, but some people may want to do it and that's okay," Trump told reporters.

"I don't think I'm going to be doing it. Wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens — I just don't see it," he added.

This virus, which was first identified in China is primarily spread through coughing and sneezing.

Meanwhile, Trump also urged Americans to "just make something" or use scarves so that clinical masks are saved for health professionals and patients.

Highlighting about other countries, Europe has reached the milestone of 40,000 dead, with Spain on Friday reporting more than 900 deaths in the past 24 hours.
