Though there were claims that it was Ariana Airlines that had crashed, the officials from the airlines dismissed it and said that all their planes landed safely at the destination. There is no information over the number of casualties yet.

The Ghazi province is located in the foothills of Hindu Kush mountains and is bitterly cold in winter. Reportedly the plane crash had happened after 15 years in Afghanistan.

The previous crash occurred in 2005 when a Kam Air flight from western Herat crashed into the mountains while it was attempting to land in snowy weather.  It was travelling to Kabul.
