Based on the latest journal published on 'Taylor & Francis Online,' the novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV can also be transmitted through Oral-Fecal route.

New route of coronavirus transmission found in a journal

Earlier it was found that the 2019-nCoV was transmitted through the respiratory tract and induced pneumonia. The latest discovery of Oral-Fecal Route has opened up a new perspective amidst the alarming coronavirus scare.

Oral-Fecal Route

It is the specific route of transmission of diseases wherein pathogens (infectious agents) in faecal particles (remains of food that could not be digested in the intestine) pass from one person to the mouth of another person.

Fingers, Flies, Fields, Fluids, and Food are the five Fs that are generally related to Oral-Fecal route. Diarrhoea, Typhoid, Cholera, Polio and Hepatitis are the diseases that could be caused via the Oral-Fecal route. The latest to add in the list is 2019-nCoV or coronavirus..

"We found 15 patients who still carry virus following days of medical treatments. Of these patients, 8 were oral swabs positive (53.3%), 4 were anal swabs positive (26.7%), 6 blood positives (40%) and 3 serum positives (20%)," wrote the authors who published the journal.

Experts advise to maintain stringent hygiene standards and ensure the cleanliness in all areas in order to get immunity from the deadly 2019-nCoV.
