DEATH SENTENCE TO 16 BANGLADESH PEOPLE IN GIRL MURDER CASE

Bangladesh court announced death sentence to 16 people who were accused and later convicted in the murder of a schoolgirl as per BDNews24. On April 6 Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a 19-year-old schoolgirl at Feni, Eastern Bangladesh was set on fire by some of the people who are affiliated to the school. Having suffered intense burns, Rafi breathed her last on April 10.

The precedents of the incident involve Rafi accusing school principal SM Siraj-Ud-Doula of sexual abuse and lodging a complaint. 

Reportedly her acquisition had angered the principal and fellow loyalties who called Rafi to the school's terrace on April 6 and asked to withdraw the complaint. As Rafi refused to hold back from her stand, the loyalties poured kerosene on her and lit her alive.

The incident became a social tragedy in Bangladesh that led to various protests and rallies seeking justice for the perpetrators of Nusrat's Murder. Six months after the brutal murder, on October 24, the court issued death sentence to the convicted 16 people - Siraj, Nur Uddin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, councilor Maksud Alam, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Shakhawat Hossain Jabed, Hafez Abdul Kader, Absar Uddin, Kamrun Nahar Moni, Umme Sultana Poppy, Abdur Rahim Sharif, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Imran Hossain Mamun, Mohammad Shamim, Ruhul Amin, and Mohiuddin Shakil. .Reportedly, the judgement is "Unprecendent" in the context of Bangladesh history.
