Wuhan is currently in lockdown with no one having permission to leave. Coronavirus has currently affected over 1,000 and has killed 41. While a lot of students left China before the onset of the Chinese New Year and January 23 (the day the lockdown came into effect), over 250 students are said to be still stuck there. Various newspapers have reported about anxious parents waiting for more updates on their wards.

It is learnt that taking into account the prevailing situation, India has requested both the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the local officials in Wuhan to consider making arrangements for the Indian students to leave.

Asked whether China would allow countries to move their citizens out of Wuhan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told, "We always help foreign consular officials in China in their official jobs, we offer them all the assistance and convenience necessary and we work to guarantee foreign citizens legitimate rights and interest in China."
