China installs 5G Tower near Indian Border: Watch Mount Everest

China Mobile celebrated its 20th birth anniversary on Monday. To honour this occasion, the transmission line that connects the Everest’s Base camp to its main network is now powered with a 5G network. Even at 5,364m above sea level, this is not the highest place on earth that you can get a 5G connection at, as currently, the higher points are the Intermediate Camp at 5,800m and 6,500m.

8 tons of networking equipment was carried to build two 5G base stations at the intermediate camp. This project was permitted and there is a team of twelve people present at the location for technical support 24/7. Further, a camera which captures the Everest peak has been set up from these towers, which will be broadcasting the scenic beauty for the people of the world, who are stuck at homes, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The 5G network now allows people to live stream faster from the base and intermediate camps throughout the day.
