Within weeks of honouring doctors and nurses who are working to fight against COVID-19 in the hospitals, the people of Chennai dishonoured Dr Simon Hercules by denying to accept his body for burial.

Dr Simon Hercules, the head of New Hopes Hospital, tested positive for COVID-19 a few weeks earlier. After fighting against the disease, he passed away on Sunday. In response, Dr Beela Rajesh tweeted, "Salutations to Dr Simon Hercules for his exemplary service in the fight against Covid19. Let us stand by each and every healthcare worker, they are the real heroes." However, his body was not allowed to be buried anywhere, and other doctors who tried to pay final respects were attacked.

Dr Bhakyaraj cried while narrating the unfortunate events that followed Dr Simon’s death.
