Many a times passengers at the airport face delayed flights due to weather or technical conditions. While few people also spend alot of time as a transit passenger. Rather than getting bored, you can now spend that time watching a movie.
Yes, you heard it right- for the very first time; Chennai airport will have five screens of PVR Cinemas in the city. This will be the largest multiplex chain in India!
According to The Hindu reports, these five screens will be built in the multi-level car parking complex. This complex is currently under construction. Also, this multiplex is being built at a cost of Rs. 250 crore by the Olympia Group. The plan is not only to built a theatre but also a variety of options for food and beverage.
Recently, Pramod Arora, chief growth and strategy officer, PVR Limited, told The Hindu that “Yes, we will have five screens with roughly over 1,000 seats. This will come up in the complex which is being constructed by the Olympia Group. We are the cinema partners."
“This facility will be operational by the second half of 2021,” he further added.
Further explaining about the target audience, Arora said that "The benefit of the Chennai airport is that it is part of the city... We are looking at 80 percent of people from the city and 20 percent of the transit passengers." There are 292 active screens in Chennai city alone, with a total of 1,18,500 seats, The Hindu further reported.
Meanwhile, officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) further confirming on the news said; “It will be constructed in such a way that it will be convenient for passengers to park their cars, shop and watch a film. The facility is coming up on either side of the Chennai Metro Rail station at a height of 27 metres,” an official said.
Also, the parking facility can accommodate approximately 2,000 cars, the official finally added.
