BULK NUMBER OF PEACOCKS FOUND DEAD ON AGRICULTURAL LAND IN TN

A tragic incident in a village called Muthanaal in Ramanathapuram district saw 6 male peacocks and 6 female peacocks dead on the agricultural fields where rice grains will be harvested. The incident was taken to forest officers Sathish, Sadaiyaandi and a group of anti-hunting guards.

The authorities reached the place and began an investigation to find that a farmer named Gopi intentionally mixed poison in Rice Grains and splattered on the fields. Therefore the peacocks consumed the poisoned rice grains to die after some time.

Gopi claimed that he wanted to get rid of the peacocks and rats since they were destroying the rice grains that were ready to harvest.

Followed by his confession, Gopi was arrested by the police. According to the law, Killing of peacocks is subject to 3-7 years of imprisonment. The authorities advised other farmers to take alternative measures in order to safeguard the rice grains and not to involve in such heinous act in the future.
