Under lockdown, with various containment zones, Chennai continues to actively fight the spread of the novel coronavirus. While some areas in Chennai are adversely affected, some other areas which previously showed no signs of infection have recently been reporting cases.

COVID-19 Hotspot in Chennai, an Area-wise Break up

Royapuram is continuing to be the most affected area as 158 people have tested positive, constituting 27% of the total cases reported in Chennai. Following Royapuram is Thiru-Vika-Nagar, where 94 people are infected. 66 people in Tondiarpet, 56 people in Teynampet, 54 people in Kodambakkam, and 53 people in Anna Nagar have tested positive for COVID-19.

17 people from Valasaravakkam and Adyar each have tested positive, followed by Thiruvottiyur, where 15 people have tested positive. Ambattur has 15 positive cases, and 9 cases in Alandur and Perungudi each have also been reported as positive cases. Sholinganallur has recorded 2 cases and Madavaram has recorded 3 cases. Within the city limits, Manali stands at 1 case.

47 new cases from across the city have been recorded as of April 28, 8:00am.

Totally 570 cases have been reported in Chennai and 384 people are currently hospitalised for treatment. 12 deceased persons are from Royapuram (5), Thiru-Vika-Nagar (3), Anna Nagar (3), and Tondiarpet (1). 173 people have recovered in the city.

Thiruvottiyur- 4

Madhavaram- 3

Tondiarpet- 15

Royapuram – 43 (3 recovered yesterday)

Thiru-Vika-Nagar- 26

Anna Nagar- 18

Teynampet- 20 (7 recovered yesterday)

Kodambakkam- 19

Valasaravakkam- 6 (1 recovered yesterday)

Adayar- 6 (2 recovered yesterday)

Alandur- 4 (2 recovered yesterday)

Perungudi- 7

Sholinganallur- 2

The city’s residents are to strictly follow the rules implemented by the authorities, especially those residing in and around the containment zones; to pave way for normalcy to return.
