The Wrestling Federation of India has imposed a life ban on wrestler Satender Malik in the 125 kg weight category.
The qualifying round for the Commonwealth and World Wrestling Championships is being held in Delhi. Indian Air Force officer and wrestler Satender Malik and Mohit were seen in the men's 125kg final at the KT Jadhav Stadium yesterday.
Satender Malik led 3-0 in a thrilling match from the start. With the last 18 seconds of the game over, Mohit tagged Satender and kicked him off the wrestling mat. Wrestling matches are usually awarded 2 points per tag down and 1 point for a total kick. However, the referee gave Mohit only 1 point.
With the referee awarding only 1 point, Mohit asked for a review. With this, Mohit got two extra points. The rule of wrestling is that even if both players have the same number of points, the player with the last point is declared the winner. Based on this, the referee declared Mohit the winner.
This angered Satender Malik who attacked referee Jagbir Singh. This shocked those in the arena. Officers then fled, removing Sadender Malik from the field.
In this case, the Indian Wrestling Federation has announced that an inquiry will be held into the incident in which Satender Malik attacked the referee and has imposed a life ban on him. It has been announced that he will no longer be competing in wrestling.
In anger, the Indian Wrestling Federation (IWF) has imposed a life ban on wrestler Satender Malik, who attacked the referee.
