Though Virat Kohli led the Indian team to the World Cup 2019 semi-finals and also played well with the bat, he failed to find a spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s team of World Cup 2019, announced on its official website on July 15 (Monday). England opener Jason Roy who scored the same 443 runs in the tournament as Virat Kohli got a spot.

Virat Kohli was missed out in the recently announced World Cup XI

The calculation of average puts Jason Roy ahead of Virat in the table. Roy's average of 63.29 in 7 matches was better than the Indian skipper. Virat Kohli averaged 55.38 in 9 matches.

However, two India players, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah found places in ICC's World Cup 2019 XI. Kane Williamson, the calm and composed skipper of New Zealand has been named as the captain of the side. Former commentators Ian Bishop, Ian Smith and Isa Guha, cricket writer Lawrence Booth and ICC General Manager Cricket Geoff Allardice picked the World Cup 2019 playing XI, as per the report by NDTV Sports.

Rohit Sharma and Jason Roy are picked as openers in the team. In fact, Rohit, who scored five tons in World Cup 2019, was the tournament's leading run-scorer with 648 runs. The batting order continues with Williamson who is placed at no 3 followed by Joe Root, all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan and Ben Stokes. Australia's Alex Carey is placed as the wicket-keeper of the team.

With big names including Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer, Lockie Ferguson and Jasprit Bumrah in the side, the bowling line attack could be a dream for any team. Mitchell Starc was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 27 wickets. Jofra Archer took 20 wickets in the tournament while Bumrah, the top-ranked ODI bowler, picked 18 wickets in the recently concluded World Cup.
