Indian Captain Virat Kohli made his 52nd ODI fifty against Afghanistan in India's 5th match of the 2019 Cricket World Cup on Saturday in Southampton. This was the first time he was batting against Afghanistan.

Virat Kohli equals Mohammad Azharuddin record as India captain

With this score, Kohli got his 4th ODI half-century of the year and 3rd in World Cups. Kohli scored his third fifty in succession to equal Mohammad Azharuddin's India record of registering three straight fifty-plus scores as India captain.

According to India Today reports, Virat Kohli was dismissed for 18 in India's opening game of the 2019 World Cup against South Africa but he hit 82 (against Australia) and 77 (against Pakistan) in the next two matches. This year, all his 3 hundreds came against Australia before the World Cup got underway.

Regards today's match, the 30-year-old Captain was looking set to once again convert his good start into a big score but he failed to score his first ton in the 2019 quadrennial event after getting caught by Rahmat Shah off Mohammad Nabi's bowling on 67. Afghanistan bowlers were exceptionally well on the sluggish track as they managed to trouble the Indian batsmen right from the start.
