The inception of Indian Premier League in 2008 laid foundation to the opening of worldwide market for Indian Cricket. The IPL franchises soon grabbed tremendous attention, thus creating fans all over the world. Every year the value of IPL would reach a new bar and a recent report from CricketNext say that the brand of IPL has taken big leap to 7 per cent thus counting USD 6.8 billion in 2019.

IPL value increases to 8% from 7 percent-CSK, MI top

The reports further add that the increase in percentage could be attributed to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) franchises in the first place. Duff & Phelps, a consultancy reported that KKR and RCB franchises recorded 8 per cent decline in their valuations.

While the Mukesh Ambani owned Mumbai Indians franchise registered an 8.5 per cent increase in valuation to INR 809 crore, the India Cements owned Chennai Super Kings shot up to 13.1 per cent, thus concluding to INR 732 crore.

"Our assessment of the brand value of the various franchises also takes into consideration the effectiveness and transparency of their management teams," the report was quoted as saying by CricketNext. The report stressed the fact that controversies had impacted on the brand earlier. It further stated that "Just like football clubs in Europe, the IPL teams’ engagement with the fans off-field will likely increase the brand value".
