The US and the South Korean military officials said North Korea had fired a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan. The development comes just days after North Korea threatened to retaliate if the global community expanded sanctions targeting the country. Condemning the launch, Japan said North Korea violated UN Security Council resolutions. The US and South Korea military said, “The military is keeping a close watch over North Korea's provocative moves and maintaining a high defence posture”.
