It was a proud moment for 36-year-old Kenyan science teacher, who bagged the award for the Global teacher prize for 2019 in Dubai. This dedicated and hardworking teacher who has been giving away most of his salary to support poorer pupils in rural Kenya, has won a $1 million (US) prize at the grand event.

Kenya\'s Peter Tabichi wins best teacher award

Tabichi has been in service for quite sometime at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Pwani Village in Nakuru. He has also been hailed for his achievements in a school which has been deprived since ages, over crowded and with only few text books.

This grand award show was hosted by renowned Hollywood actor and producer Hugh Jackman. It was organised to recognizes the 'exceptional' teacher's commitment towards pupils across the globe.

Teary eyed Tabichi on receiving the award said "As a teacher working on the front line I have seen the promise of its young people - their curiosity, talent, intelligence and their belief. The award is an optimistic sign."

One can say, that it was quite a good day for Tabichi as he over shadowed 10,000 other nominees from nearly 180 countries around the world.
