In a shocking case, a woman was left blind in one eye after the whistle of a pressure cooker hit and got stuck into her skull.

Woman blinded as pressure cooker whistle shoots into SKULL

The woman has been identified as Munda Birsi, 57, who hails from Jharkhand's Khunti district. She had been cooking dal when the incident took place on September 4.

She has been admitted to the Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Super Speciality Hospital in Jharkhand, where doctors were able to save her life, but not her left eye.

As per Metro news, the woman was in the kitchen and preparing dal; she had left the pressure cooker on the gas stove and went to cut hay in her back yard.

After an hour she rushed back into the kitchen and moved the cooker off the lit stove. With the sudden change in heat, the steam made the whistle burst out and pierce her skull next to her eye.

After the family rushed the woman to the hospital, surgeons couldn’t see the bullet-sized bit of metal from the outside. Only after a CT scan it was revealed that the bullet was deeply jammed near her brain, Metro news further reported.

The woman had to undergo a complex operation which was headed by Dr Ashish Joy Soren. Hours after the operation, he said "Firstly we had to release adhesions around the whistle and ensure that no bleeding should occur while extricating the metallic object. ‘We had kept backup plans if blood would spurt."

"It was a bit difficult to pull out the whistle as vigorous manoeuvre would damage the surrounding tissues. We gently pulled the whistle and packed the wound opening with the gauze pieces," he finally added.
